Do You Know Any Of The London Rioters?

Tuesday, 09 August 2011

A website has been created where you can identify london rioters from photos or upload your own for identification.

In the time honoured tradition of citizen justice, a website has been created to harness the power of social media to bring the london rioters to justice.

Originally reported by Kat Hannaford at Gizmodo, London Rioters allows you to upload images of your own for others to identify or allows you to identify people in others. I wouldn't advise venturing out into the middle of a rioting mob just to get a picture for the site though.

Some of the pictures appear to be press ones where people have clearly been arrested so probably don't need identifying.

The site is a little slow at the moment, probably due to the amount if interest in this but have a look and see if you can help.

UPDATE: Sarah Perez at TechCrunch just posted an article on TechCrunch about a similar effort on Facebook, aiming to take advantage of the facial recognition they have there.

The Met have put up their own version of people they want to identify too, albeit without the smart social media integration.
